October is National Dental Hygiene Month. For families without dental insurance, routine cleanings are often the first thing to get pushed back. Balanced Dental Studio in Lakewood is using the month to spotlight its in-house membership plans, which cover preventive care for one flat yearly fee.
Plans cost $525 a year for adults and $325 a year for kids ages 3 to 17. Each plan covers two cleanings, fluoride treatments, unlimited exams, and all necessary X-rays. Members also get 15% off restorative services. There are no deductibles and no claim forms.
"A lot of people without insurance wait until something hurts," said Dr. Elizabeth Turner, the practice's founder. "By then it's usually a bigger repair. The membership plan makes regular cleanings a fixed cost, so it's easier to keep coming in."
The plans work for self-employed patients, families between jobs, and anyone whose employer doesn't offer dental coverage. Patients can enroll by calling the office or asking at the front desk. For patients who do have insurance, the practice is in-network with Delta Premier and accepts most plans.
